Call for Latin America Section Editor in Chief

The International Exchanges on the Study of Writing, a book series that is part of the WAC Clearinghouse, publishes books that address worldwide perspectives on writing, writers, teaching with writing, and scholarly writing practices, specifically those that draw on scholarship across national and disciplinary borders to challenge parochial understandings of all of the above. Latin American Section

The Latin America Section of the International Exchanges on the Study of Writing (IE) book series publishes peer-reviewed books about writing, writers, teaching with writing, and scholarly writing practices from Latin American perspectives. It also offers re-editions of recognized peer-reviewed books originally published in the region. Most books are written in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or English. The Latin America Section includes lead editor Federico Navarro, who will be stepping down, and two co-editors (Violeta Molina-Natera and Vera Cristovão) and an associate editor (Ana Cortés Lagos).

The Co-Editor Role
The International Exchanges (IE) co-editor will join the current co-editors to assume shared responsibility for editorial oversight and management of all stages related to the production and publication (in both print and online formats) of current and future IE books. While one series co-editor is the primary contact person for the series and coordinates meeting times and agendas, each series co-editor takes the lead on a given project based on their expertise, with collaboration among co-editors as needed. Co-editors meet virtually to discuss updates or issues with production and projects in process, to assign a lead editor on new projects, and to plan online events. The incoming co-editor will be mentored by a veteran co-editor for one year.

The Latin American Section Chief Editor specific responsibilities

In addition to collaborating with the International Exchanges series co-editors, the Latin-America Section editor in chief will lead the edition, publication, and re-edition of books from the section. This also includes encouraging the Latin American writing research community to submit book proposals, as well as contacting peer-reviewers to assess new projects.

 

Time Commitment

The time commitment will vary throughout the year, depending upon projects a series co-editor leads. There will be an hour and a half editorial meeting every 4-6 weeks. Co-editors take the lead on one to three projects per year, depending on expertise and workload, so the commitment per month depends on whether a co-editor is acting as lead on a project or online event. On average, series co-editors may typically spend up to six hours a month over the course of a year.

  • Their contribution to Latin American research and their participation in Latin American writing research networks, associations, and institutions;
  • Their command of Spanish, Portuguese, and English;

Additionally, applicants may want to expand on

  • How their work has supported international exchanges, equity and respect as outlined in the series’ Language Policy (found at https://wac.colostate.edu/books/international/guidelines/language-policy/);
  • Their understanding of the ethics and challenges of international publishing; 
  • Their experiences in conducting international writing research and their work across international networks;
  • Their experience with digital platforms, social media and/or with webinars. 

Timeline

The deadline for applications is November 4, 2022, with a zoom multilingual interview to follow in late November and early December with a final announcement by the new year.
