To celebrate the 25th anniversary of IWAC and mark this moment in time, we are delighted to produce an edited collection that will appear in the WAC Clearinghouse Perspectives on Writing Series. Collection submissions should be revised versions of IWAC 2018 presentations. All conference session types will be eligible for consideration, and presenters from across disciplines and institution types are encouraged to submit. The submission process will be competitive and based on peer review. The collection will feature a range of work to represent the wide variety of students, sites, and strategies that WAC encompasses.
The edited collection will align with the conference theme, "Making Connections," which emphasized how WAC fosters connections: within and across institutions and programs, between people and positions, and among ideas and practices. In a historical moment when divisiveness, rancor, and disconnection are so pervasive on the national and international stage, we aim to underscore the power of collaboration, integration, inclusion, and the search for common ground. We invite potential contributors to remember together why we chose -- and continue choosing -- our work, and then to envision more connected futures. We are looking for contributions that pay special attention to this moment in time in WAC and in education more broadly: How did we get here? Where are we going?
Because we are aiming for a 2019 publication date, we are asking potential contributors to submit complete drafts between August 1, 2018 and August 15, 2018. Collaborative submissions are welcome. Submission lengths will vary depending on your presentation type, but we anticipate that chapters will be no fewer than 2,000 words (most likely for a revision of a teaching demonstration or discussion of a poster or 5 x 10) and no more than 5,000 words (most likely for a revision of an individual or panel presentation, roundtable discussion, or interactive workshop). Please format your submissions in APA style and send them to iwac2018collection@gmail.com. Don't hesitate to email the same address if you have questions.
Collection co-editors, Lesley Bartlett, Sandra Tarabochia, Andrea Olinger, and Margaret Marshall, will be identified at the conference by a colored ribbon on their name badge. Please feel free to ask questions throughout the conference.
