The National WAC Conferences began in 1993 with a meeting co-hosted by The Citadel: The Military College of South Carolina, the College of Charleston, and Clemson University. This consortium hosted two more biennial conferences in Charleston, after which the venues moved to universities in New York, Indiana, Texas, and Missouri. In 2006, the conference returned to South Carolina, when it was hosted by Clemson University. In 2008, it was hosted by the University of Texas in Austin.
