Writing Spaces Seeks Assistant Editors

Writing Spaces, an open textbook for college-level writing courses, is hiring several Assistant Editors (including Copyeditors, Social Media Manager, and a Web Editor) to help produce annual volumes of their open access textbook series. Qualified candidates for all three positions will have experience with or interest in the study and teaching of first year writing, prior editorial experience, professional online communication and collaboration skills, and be able to manage and organize workload around publication timelines. Copyeditor – Writing Spaces

Writing Spaces is looking for copyeditors to serve a 3 year (renewable) term. The Copyeditor’s role will include working with the Writing Spaces editorial team to prepare manuscripts for publication in both PDF and print formats. This will include editing manuscripts for clarity and consistency, as well as formatting the documents per MLA guidelines and WS document design standards. We see this as a great position for an individual with an interest in and experience with professional writing and technical communication and/or academic publishing.

 Social Media Manager – Writing Spaces

Writing Spaces is looking for a Social Media Manager to serve a 3 year (renewable) term. The Social Media Manager’s role will include working with the Writing Spaces editorial team to develop and maintain a stronger web presence, particularly on social media (Twitter, Facebook) and in other online spaces (listservs, etc.). The Social Media Manager will also work with the Web Editor to coordinate and promote web content. We see this as a great position for a scholar with an interest in online communities, social media management, marketing/promotion, and/or other aspects of digital rhetoric.

Web Editor – Writing Spaces

Writing Spaces is looking for a web editor to serve a 3 year (renewable) term. The Web Editor’s role will include working with the Writing Spaces editorial team to develop and maintain Writing Spaces’ primary website:http://writingspaces.org, which currently runs on a Drupal content management system. Qualified candidates will manage and update announcements on the website and work with other editors and publishers to organize and update new content on an annual basis. Additionally, the web editor will work with the editorial team to expand the Writing Spaces website with more interactive features focusing on pedagogy and teaching with Writing Spaces. Qualified candidates will have experience with web authorship in content management systems (Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla), basic knowledge of html and PHP, dedication to creating accessible content, and interest in learning new technologies as needed.
