In my previous message I referred to "royal imagery" in the King James
Version of the 23rd psalm. I should have said "politically sensitive" or
some such thing. Actually its the other versions that deviate most
significantly from the Hebr ew text. My point was not about this
specifically, however; it's that once students (even Christian
fundamentalists have gone through an exercise comparing translations and trying
to account for the differences, they seem to be more willing to see the
religious texts from their own tradition as possible objects of rhetorical
analysis.
