Anarchy and belly-button lint = ?
Steve Krause
I think Nick's last post on all this made a lot of sense. Editing is
indeed a funny word-- for some it's proof reading and spell checking, for
some it's deciding content and organization, and I don't think we're all
talking about the same thing all the time.
Two more cents:
- I really like the setting up this whole editing discussion as
some sort of hypertextually linked web discussion, but I think we need to
be careful about belly-button staring-- we can only deconstruct ourselves
for so long before not actually doing something.
- I'm not kidding about the anarachy thing-- there doesn't seem to
be any reason to me to not simply go ahead and try to use RhetNet as a
"storefront" for basically anything anybody wants to put out there on
rhetoric, composition, etc. There'd have to be some formatting
requirements to avoid making Eric's or anyone else's job converting
essays into html files, but I still think a "non-editing" approach ought
to be seriously considered here.
