Hey, gang!

Instead of inventing the virtual university, why not explore how to
teach--for pay--what already exists?

I'm not sure who's doing what with the Spectrum announcement below, but they
have LOTS of worldwide students. Also, there is a National Distance Learning
Center in Kentucky, govt-sponsored, I believe, that has info on who or what
is offering online stuff. I'm not sure just where it is, but a call to the
Kentucky University System (state) should get you info.

Also, within the last 2 weeks, I have seen mention in U.S. News and World
Report, possibly the college-listings issue, of a number of schools offering
distance-learning MBAs. I remember that NYU is teaching a for-credit course
in writing at approx. $700 per, or was last year.

Various companies--I think, Hewlett-Packard among them--have paid to run
online sessions internally where engineers around the globe can log on and
take courses as their timing and schedule permits. Can't see why some of
those might not be in writing... Check also the American Society of Training
and Development (ASTD), 703 area code, Arlington VA., I believe, for
companies/outfits/experts who are currently offering on-line training, and
see if anyone qualified professionally can sign on.

Remember me? I'm the English instructor with the MBA who likes making money
as well as teaching grammar to remedial students. You have the search
engines and the know-how to run some detailed bloodhound-type work on what
is commercially up and running at this point, and to figure out how to tap
into it for profit.

Believe me, it's fun to teach; it's fun to teach motivated students; and
it's even more fun to teach motivated students and earn money at the same
time, while being out there, creating! Go find--and when you find, share
with this list.

(and herewith, virtual university. If I had more time, I'd sign up for the
free writing course, and see how someone is doing it. That might give me a
template from which to create and market my own)

FOCUS GROUPS POSTPONED...

"Focus Group" workshops (courses 851-862) have been postponed
due to instructors' conflicting work schedules. We hope to
repeat these courses in the Spring. If you had planned to take
one of these classes, please check our calendar and feel free
to substitute another course that interests you.

NEWCOMERS WELCOME IN "NEW ADVENTURES" WRITING COURSE

Our Fall journalism course, "Write On! New Adventures in Creative
Writing (#565)" is listed on our Calendar as a "continuation" of
a class that we offered this past summer ("Eight Weeks to
Creative Writing" #541). However, new students and beginning
writers are welcome to enroll and completion of the summer class
is not required.

ACCESSING OUR CAMPUS ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB...

Now is a good time to prepare for Fall classes by making sure
that you have reliable and low-cost access to classrooms on the
Web. Our sponsor, SPRYNET, offers unlimited Internet access for
$19.95 a month with NO SIGNUP FEE, a free home page on the World
Wide Web, 24 hour online support, and local dialup access in 480

now open. Feel free to surf in and get acquainted with people
from around the world who will be in your classes this fall. You
