Reviewing CCCC 2000: Responding To Pressures For Assessment: One More Damn Thing To Do, Or An Opportunity To Improve Teaching And Learning (B.26)

This session gave participants Ellen Schendel, Brian Huot, Michael Williamson, Peggy O'Neil and respondent Richard Larson a chance to make strong points to packed audience. The discussion focused on Huot's central assertion that doing writing assessment is a way to research one's writing community. Based on the assumption that assessment has to be usable to stake holders and understood as promoting growth, participants described the ways they implement assessment and critically analyze their assessment processes. The Q&A was spirited and the discourse throughout the session indicated that those of us concerned with assessment have increased the reach and scholarship of assessment concerns.
