But Maureen Fitzpatrick's three examples of why grading can be
harmful really are illustrations of why students' ATTITUDES toward
grades can be harmful. I guess that's my complaint--that all this
talk about the nefarious effects of grading ignores the fact that
grades themselves are just grades, as if the only real solution is to
get rid of them altogether because people can't help their attitudes
toward grades.
