What if "colleague" is *not* defined as "friend"? What if "colleague"
(especially at the level of FYC) is something like co-inquirer, a
"teacher" who has constructed her or his course so that students and
teachers engage in writing projects that Eric might consider to be "real
writing" situations? What if the teacher / colleague were in part casting
herself into the role of writer / learner (who might just happen to know
some things that "students" don't know about writing / reading; but who
acknowledges that students can "teach" too) as much as in the obvious
role of teacher / authority?

I don't have time right now to elaborate; but this strikes me to be more
of what the "teacher as colleague" model might enable.
