A Brief History of the WAC Network

The National Network of WAC Programs began in 1981 with annual meetings at the conventions of the National Council of Teachers of English and the Conference on College Composition and Communication. Through the ongoing help of the Northern Virginia Writing Project (Donald Gallehr, Director, and Mark Farrington, Program Coordinator) and with financial support from members, an annual print directory was published. In addition to the books mentioned above, a regular column in the Composition Chronicle, "The Network News," was published from 1989 to 1997. The Network became the International Network of WAC Programs in 2005.
