Students submit papers to their assigned Fellow, who reads their drafts analytically, making minimal annotations but writing extensive endnotes. Fellows then meet individually with their assigned students to discuss each paper’s endnotes and develop strategies for revision. Because Fellows are trained to respond to students’ texts as engaged readers rather than critical editors, students are encouraged to view themselves as developing writers rather than conscripted pupils. Students revise their papers based on their collaborative work with their Fellow and submit revisions to their instructor, who reviews both the draft and the final copy to determine the grade.
The WCU Fellows Program encourages a university-wide writing culture, promotes collaborative learning, and complements existing writing center services.
