Reviewing CCCC 2000: Curriculum Models For Service Learning: Simulating Workplace Writing Situations (J.5)

This session gave Robert McEachern, Robert Graves, and Karen Kuralt a stage to present their stories about student tech writers gaining credit and experience (and sometimes knowledge!) in service learning contexts. Robert McEachern stood out as a voice of reason. Though he read a paper, his ideas were easy to follow and he told interesting anecdotes that showed a sincere and insightful approach to his research and the need for greater research in the field of service learning. These teachers represented some of the best cultural advances in our field--their writing instruction and pedagogy was centered on social action in ways that show our teaching can and should affect change.
